There are two independent Ferry Operators that offer scheduled services from Auckland city to The Riverhead, return. The Riverhead Ferry and The Red Boats.
The Riverhead doesn’t operate (or own) the boats.

Yes, there is a climb of 55 steps up from the jetty. These are uneven and steep in sections. Unfortunately, this means the route is not accessible for wheelchairs, walkers, or anyone with limited mobility.

The Riverhead is home to three unique spaces: The Landing Restaurant offers relaxed, river-view dining; The Portage as a laid-back local bar with great food, cold drinks and a welcoming atmosphere; and The Boat House is our private function venue, perfect for weddings, corporate functions and special events. The Riverhead itself refers to the entire establishment.

The Riverhead will need to manage which venue you are booked into - your preferred venue choice may not be able to accommodate you based on other bookings scheduled for the same day.

As The Riverhead is a fully licensed venue with on-site dining options, no outside food or beverages are allowed.

Cancellations made more than 48 hours before your scheduled sailing time will be refunded, less a non-refundable $3 booking/administration fee per person.
Unfortunately, no refunds are available for cancellations made within 48 hours of your sailing time.

If the Ferry has had to cancel the trip due to inclement weather or any other unforeseen circumstance, then you will be refunded in full.
The ferry operators require a minimum number of confirmed customers to sail, should these minimum numbers not be reached they reserve the right to cancel the service. A full refund will be provided, and as much notice as possible given.

The Ferries depart from Pier Z Westhaven marina (31 Westhaven Drive).

Both ferry operators are fully licensed with snacks available - however we recommend cash as eftpos reception can be patchy on the water!
There are bathroom facilities onboard and the ferries are child friendly.

Dogs are not permitted onbaord the ferries, or at The Riverhead (except Service Dogs).

Please note that there are 55 steps from the Riverhead dock up to the The Riverhead. The climb is not suitable for those with limited mobility.

Senior Citizen discounted rates are available for week days only for Gold Card holders - not available on weekends.

No, you do not need to book this separately. You select the eatery of choice when booking. The ferry operators and The Riverhead will work together to ensure you are booked on the ferry and at The Riverhead.

No, unfortunately there is no pickup option from Birkenhead wharf.
